Burning Rubber Smells
Burning smells are always a sign of trouble, and if you smell the stench of burning rubber, your transmission fluid could be burning. This fluid is vital for your transmission, providing the hydraulic power that allows the gears to shift. Many transmission components depend on friction to work effectively, and this fluid coats them in a friction-reducing covering to protect them.
Transmission fluid is heat resistant but loses this property as it ages. The transmission operates at high temperatures due to the constant movement of countless parts, which can cause older fluid to overheat and burn. Slipping Gears
